Evil Twin was a creative project I directed, conceptualized and developed a story for, in the spirit of Halloween. Evil Twin celebrates the Union of the twins; Annika and Grace who represent the division between the socialized and repressed. The battle between good and evil. Grace, the good twin in white is in opposition with Annika, the bad twin. In this moral war, Annika manipulates Grace to ultimately expose her darkness. The story of the evil twin ends tragically with Grace, fully accepting who has become; the Evil Twin inside her triumphs.
The concept of this production is a metaphoric representation of the morality and how it shapes our relationships. Opposing ideologies often leads to detrimental conflict amongst humans, which causes them to act immorally, in the honour of defending their beliefs and values. Our self righteous minds lead us to believe we are good, while our actions prove otherwise. We become cruel, when faced with an opposing force. The evil inside of us prevails, tragically.
I planned Evil Twin's production over the span of a month, by studying concepts in literature and hollywood's depictions of twins such as movies like The Shining and Shakespeare. Through this process, I conceptualized the representation of twins, in relation to society's patterns of how morality appears in human behaviour. This process was then followed by the creation of an art brief full of inspiration, as well as set details such as makeup, hair, attire, props, and poses.
I recruited a team of talented creatives from Toronto, and directed them through this production. Thank you to the incredible production team for bringing my story and vision to life!
